Corporate Social Responsibility: Hitachi Power Africa officially opens the Segwati Pre-School.
On Wednesday, 25 January 2012, HPA opened and handed over to the community the newly-developed Segwati Pre-School at Shongoane Village, Lephalale in Limpopo Province. The facility consists of four classrooms, an administration block comprised of a meeting room, an office and a kitchen as well as an ablution block made up of a store-room, a laundry, flushing toilets for children and for adults, playground facilities, electricity connection and a borehole from which to pump water.

Hitachi Ltd participates in COP-17 in Durban
Hitachi Ltd participated as an exhibitor in the Climate Change Response Expo (CCR-Expo) held in conjunction with the COP-17 meetings in Durban. This exhibition was aimed at showcasing a variety of sustainable ways in which the world should be responding to climate change.

Kusile Power Station in construction phase
A celebration to kick-start the construction of the boilers for Kusile Power Station was held at Site on Saturday, 19 November 2011. Gracing the event were the South African Minister of Public Enterprises, Malusi Gigaba; His Excellency, the Ambassador of Japan, Mr Toshiro Ozawa and the Mayor of Victor Khanye Municipality, Eva Makhabane among others.

Start of construction at Segwati Pre-School
The official commencement of construction of Hitachi Power Africa’s flagship socio-economic development programme – the Segwati Pre-School – was celebrated at a sod-turning ceremony held on 14 April 2011 in Shongoane Village 2, Lephalale in Limpopo Province. Construction commenced on Monday, 18 April 2011.

Scholarship for SA Engineers
Hitachi Power Africa and the South African Department of Science and Technology hosted a send-off reception in Pretoria for three engineers from Eskom who have received this year’s Hitachi-DST Scholarship for SA Engineers. The three will spend five months in Japan where they will benefit from a training programme aimed at transferring expertise and improving the competencies and capacity of South African Engineers who work in utilities.

AOTS - Hitachi Seminar in South Africa 2009
The 25th AOTS-Hitachi Seminar will take place at the Sandton Sun Hotel, Johannesburg, South Africa on 17-20 November 2009. About 100 engineers are expected to attend the event, the theme of which will be: Preventative maintenance/life extension, advanced technology for thermal power plants and environmental improvement systems.

Hitachi Power Africa office opening
On Friday, June 5 2009, Hitachi Power Africa held an event to mark the official opening of its new offices at the Country Club Estate, Woodmead in Johannesburg. The event was attended by the Chief Executive of Hitachi Europe, Sir Stephen Gommersall; Chief Executive of Hitachi Power Europe, Klaus-Dieter Rennert; the President and Chief Financial Officer of Hitachi Power Europe, Toshiaki Higashihara and Junichi Nakamura respectively; the management and staff of Hitachi Power Africa as well as business associates and partners.

Hitachi Power Africa and SPX DB Thermal launch a state of the art Boiler Part manufacturing facility in Nigel, South Africa
Hitachi Power Africa and DB Thermal, a division of DBT Technologies Pty Ltd, an affiliate of SPX officially launched the new 11,000m² Boiler Pressure Part Manufacturing facility at DB Thermal's industrial premises in Nigel, Gauteng on 8 May 2009.
